2022 Oyster Cup Tournament Rules

1 – All games will consist of (3) 12-minute stop-time periods. There will be a flood at the end of
the third period of each game.

2 – Teams must be ready 30 minutes prior to their scheduled game time.

3 – Warm-up will be 3 minutes in length and will begin as soon as teams are on the ice.

4 – Each team will receive 3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for a shootout win, 1 point for a
shootout loss, and 0 points for a regulation loss. There will be no overtime in round robin.

5 – In the case of a regulation tie, we will have a shootout (best of 3 format – NHL rules). 3
players will be chosen to shoot for each team. Most goals wins. If a tie persists after 3 shooters,
we will continue 1 player at a time for each team until the tie is broken. A player cannot shoot a
second time until all players have attempted 1 shot (excluding goalies).

6 – Game rules are the same as Hockey Canada game rules.

7 – There will be no discussion on coach ejections from games.

8 – No equipment penalties will be awarded (ex. stick curves, torn pants, etc.)

9 – If there is a spread of 7 goals or more, the losing team may choose to go straight time or
continue with stop time beginning in the third period.

10 – Each team will receive 1 timeout per game in the semi-final and championship games only.

11 – Home teams are responsible to check on jersey colours prior to the start of the game

12 – Tiebreaker between 2 teams for playoff round:
a) Team with most regulation wins
b) Result between head to head game
c) Best goal average (higher percentage gains the position)

ii) All round robin games are included in calculation
iii) A maximum of +7 goals will be awarded to a team winning by more than 7

15 – Coaches and team staff are responsible for their actions and those of their members
(players, parents, etc.). There will be a zero-tolerance policy on abuse of officials.

16 – Suspensions will be determined by following the Hockey Canada minimum standards.

17 – No protests will be accepted.

18 – The tournament organizing committee will have the final decision regarding any
interpretation of the rules.

19 – If a player is injured on the ice and bench personnel step onto the ice, or a referee
signals for a coach to come onto the ice, the player must report to the dressing room to
be examined. They will not be permitted to return to the ice/bench until 15 minutes have
passed on the game clock.

20 – To reiterate, we have a zero-tolerance policy with disrespect to game officials. Please
respect the referees at all times. Should you have a situation that you would like to
discuss concerning a particular individual, we have appointed supervisors who are
available for said discussions (they do not have the power to change a referee’s
decision). We have also advised the refereeing staff to treat coaches with respect, as
they will be expecting the same in return. They will not exercise any patience when being
sworn, screamed, or gestured at. Any coach ejected from a game will be suspended for
the next 2 games.
