Andrews Hockey Welcomes Ben MacDonald as Director of ASI

Andrews Hockey is excited to announce the new Andrews Sports Institute (ASI) for Future Leaders Program under the leadership of Ben MacDonald. Ben was hired as Program Director in early July and will be overseeing all elements of ASI. Ben is a recent UPEI (BSc Kin) and UNB (BEd) graduate as well as a long-time Andrews Hockey senior instructor. Andrews Hockey Executive Director Brad Mackenzie says, “Ben’s passion for teaching combined with his experience in the Andrews Hockey system made him the perfect candidate to lead this new program. Anyone who has worked with Ben knows how much he cares for his students and has a skill-set to challenge and encourage them to strive to reach their potential.”

ASI is an exciting new program that is designed to challenge students to thrive in both academics and athletics while providing serious student-athletes the opportunity to stay in the public-school system.  Throughout the program, students will participate in the
Andrews Sports Institute SEEING ONESELF® Personal Growth Program which includes four key modules: 1) Hockey Homework, 2) Leadership Training, 3) Reading Program, 4) Passion Project.

This year’s ASI program will be available to students around the Globe through our new
Remote ASI Distance Learning Program. The distance learning program aligns ASI students with positive role models who will hold students accountable and encourage them to make strides towards their personal goals and dreams. The 20-week distance learning program will challenge students to take charge of their academic and athletic development while teaching them important character traits such as responsibility, accountability, goal setting, positive attitude, and appreciation. The program currently has participants from Thailand, Saudi Arabia, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Pennsylvania, North West Territories, Nunavut, Ontario, Quebec, and all Atlantic Provinces. For students in PEI, ASI will offer the
ASI After School Program this fall in three different locations- Charlottetown, Pownal, and Georgetown. This 10 week after-school program will feature an on-ice skills program followed by leadership training through Andrews Sports Institute SEEING ONESELF® Personal Growth Program. The After-School Program started in 2017 with a pilot group. Here is what one parent had to say about their child’s experience in the ASI program:

We have always enjoyed our experiences at Andrews Hockey and have enjoyed the growth of our children from their participation in a variety of programs. However, Andrews Sports Institute has delivered beyond any other. As a result, we would highly recommend this program to any hockey family interested in taking their children’s game, student skills, and life skills to the next level. The improvement we have seen in our children on ice and off ice performance is astonishing! Many heartfelt thanks to Andrews Hockey for making this program available to our children.
