ASI - Discover Leadership Through Sports


WHO:   Island students who are enrolled in the Public School system.

WHAT:   This is an external credit, therefore students will work on this independantly out side of scheduled school hours.

WHERE:   Students will do 2/3’s of the work remotely via google classroom. The Remaining 1/3 of the course will be completed in person on PEI School Board PD days. These sessions will be held at the Bell Aliant Center on the UPEI Campus.

WHEN:    September 2019 – March 2020 & On Identified PD days

WHY:   The Andrews Sports Institute (ASI) Discover Leadership through Sports Course is designed to challenge students academically and in sport while remaining enrolled in the Public School System.

Program Description

The Andrews Sports Institute (ASI) Discover Leadership through Sports Course is a 15-week online program designed to challenge students academically and in sport while remaining enrolled in the Public School System. Through 4 core modules, the ASI Program takes a holistic approach to develop students into confident leaders of strong character. Students will use self-evaluation, video discussions, sport skill development, everyday life experiences, and traditional reading exercises to develop an understanding of learning so that they will be in a position to participate productively and effectively in sport and academics.

4 Core Modules

  • Leadership Module – Provides students with opportunities to develop skills for managing experiences in healthy ways while maintaining a focus on positive goals.
  • Reading Module – Strives to help students become proficient and enthusiastic readers and writers while also promoting personal growth through carefully selected reading material
  • Hockey Skill Development Module – This section will be completed through weekly skill videos done at home and on-ice practice sessions.
  • Service-Learning & Community Improvement Module- Students will identify a shared vision and set common goals to address a community need. Students will put their vision to practice through community improvement activities.
